Give to New England Historic Genealogical Society

To advance the study of family history in America and beyond

As an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution, American Ancestors and New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) relies on generous donors like you to ensure the sustainability of our comprehensive family history services.

You do so much when you make a gift to NEHGS. Your generosity makes our mission possible. Now, more than ever, your donation is critical to help family historians of all levels explore their own history and understand their family’s unique place in history. You help preserve our past through award-winning exhibits and collections. You fuel genealogical research that advances expertly analyzed and carefully vetted services such as publications, research, online databases, exhibitions, and consultative advice. You sustain conservation efforts of treasured items that are historically significant and in urgent need of conservation treatment.

During this time of uncertainty we appreciate your online gift more than ever. As our headquarters remains closed and our staff work remotely, you will make an immediate impact on bringing more online services directly to you. Already our online team has increased the number of days you can talk to an expert family historian and we've doubled our membership chat hours. Our online content and programs — including webinars, courses, and rich content — can help you discover the connection you've been searching for. Nearly all of our educational programming is FREE, and available to anyone.

Please consider supporting our online team as they work to develop this high quality content. Any size gift makes a difference. Thank you for your generous support today!

In Memory or In Honor

You may honor a loved one with a gift to NEHGS.

Double Your Gift!

Your gift to NEHGS could be matched by your employer! Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees, retirees, and/or employees’ spouses. Check with your human resources department to see if your company has a matching gift program

Family History Sustainer Circle

When you join our monthly giving program, your gift makes a difference all year long. Since recurring gifts are automatic, you can make a regular impact without the continuous effort! Your recurring gift ensures a steady source of funding for our mission throughout the year and allows you to express your support more fully. It is convenient, customizable, and even environmentally friendly!

Pledges

Making a pledge to NEHGS often enables you to make a larger gift over time. To make a pledge, please contact the Development Team at development@nehgs.org or 617-226-1217.

Appreciated Securities

You can enjoy a double tax benefit by making a gift of appreciated securities to NEHGS. You may make a tax-smart gift of securities you have owned for more than one year. We sell your securities and use the proceeds to advance our mission. You receive a double tax benefit in the form of an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of your gift and you pay no capital gains tax on your gift of securities to NEHGS. IRA Distribution

Because you care, we wanted you to know of a smart way to give to NEHGS that won’t affect your daily finances and will help us continue to meet our needs far into the future. An IRA charitable distribution is a terrific way to make a tax-free gift to NEHGS. If you are 70½ or older, you can tell your IRA administrator to transfer your gift directly from your IRA account to NEHGS. The gift will not be taxed as income to you. You don’t get an income tax charitable deduction for the gift; however, you don’t pay taxes on your IRA withdrawal, which means the IRA charitable distribution is tax-free. Learn more

Planned Gifts

Many planned gifts, such as charitable gift annuities or remainder trusts, can often increase annual income tax savings. Learn more
