Do you have boxes of old family photographs tucked away in a closet? Letters, diaries, or other cherished heirlooms stored in the basement? Many family historians have collections they treasure but aren't sure how to care for properly.

Join us for our Preservation Roadshow, where you'll learn practical tips from our experts to help you preserve your family's photographs, documents, and heirlooms. Discover best practices for storage, handling, and long-term care, and gain the knowledge you need to help ensure your family's history is preserved for generations to come.

The program will begin with a presentation by American Ancestors Conservator Todd Pattison, who will share preservation best practices and common mistakes to avoid. Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to receive personalized preservation advice for one item from their own collection. Bring an item (or a photograph of it) and our experts will offer recommendations for its care and preservation.

What to Bring

  • One family item (or a photograph of the item) for preservation advice. Items may include photographs, letters, diaries, family Bibles, scrapbooks, or other family heirlooms.
  • A notebook and pencil or an electronic device for taking notes.
