Esther N, founder of Maker’s Favourite Designs, will teach you a brief history of calligraphy, basic strokes and techniques, letter formation, and how to bring letters together into beautiful words using a brush pen.

Join us on the second floor of American Ancestors at the Brue Family Learning Center and receive hands-on practice with guided instruction, plenty of encouragement, and all the tools you need. By the end, you’ll have a beautiful holiday card or note to give to someone special.

Esther of Maker’s Favourite Designs has honed her skills in calligraphy, engraving, and hand lettering over nearly a decade, bringing meticulous precision and passion to her work. Whether lettering name cards, engraving glassware and bottles at on-site events, addressing envelopes, or designing artistic pieces that explore the breadth of calligraphic styles, Esther pours her heart into her creations to ensure the highest quality and care goes into each piece.

She is trained in traditional pointed-pen and broad-edge calligraphy scripts, but is also proficient in modern brush lettering. She has collaborated with individuals, small businesses, and multinational corporations on projects big and small. She continues to expand her skill set by engaging with the calligraphy community, undertaking individual and group study of new techniques, and has even begun teaching beginners’ lettering lessons of her own to invite others along on her artistic journey. In everything she does, Esther’s love of the written word shines through.
