Spend a cozy afternoon crafting and learning the fundamentals of bookbinding. Join American Ancestors’ Conservator, Todd Pattison, for a hands-on workshop that introduces participants to the art of creating a softcover handmade book. Todd will guide you through key techniques such as paper selection, folding, and hand-sewing your binding—skills that can be used to create journals, sketchbooks, ledgers, and more.

Participants will leave with a completed, hand-sewn journal of their own, along with the knowledge and confidence to continue making books at home. To provide historical inspiration, examples of original diaries from the American Ancestors collections will be on display, offering a glimpse into how these handmade objects have been used and treasured over time.

Registration includes all necessary tools needed for the workshop including:

  • Writing paper
  • Decorative cover paper
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needles
  • Ruler
