The Brim-DeForest Library is a public family history research library located in Boston’s historic Back Bay.
As a premier destination for genealogical research and scholarship, The Brim-DeForest library provides access to an extensive collection of books, maps, manuscripts, and digital resources. It is home to the R. Stanton Avery Special Collections—one of the world's most comprehensive collections of rare genealogical materials and published works.
Founded through the generosity of The Brim-DeForest family, the library represents a lasting commitment to preserving family history and advancing the study of ancestry for generations to come. We welcome American Ancestors members and the general public to explore their family heritage, strengthen their connections to the past, and uncover the stories that shape their identities.
The Brim-DeForest Library is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
The Brim-DeForest Family
In 2023, entrepreneur and antiquarian Brady Brim-DeForest and his wife, Jessica Brim-DeForest, contributed $1 million to American Ancestors to ensure that the nearly two-hundred-year-old library at the New England Historic Genealogical Society remains a vibrant hub for the study of family history for generations to come.
The establishment of The Brim-DeForest Library reflects their deep commitment to the study of family history, heraldry, and genealogy, as well as the vital role that understanding our roots plays in shaping the future. Their philanthropy builds on a legacy of supporting education, historic preservation, and scholarly research. Through this gift, the Brim-DeForest family honors their ancestors while providing future generations with the tools to explore and celebrate their own heritage.
