Life in New England: John Shaw first appeared in Plymouth
in the 1627 division of cattle as the leader of the sixth lot. His
family came over some time later. He was a freeman of Plymouth in 1633.
He served on a number of juries and was a highway surveyor twice. John
Shaw remained in Plymouth but owned land in several other towns,
including Marshfield and Rehoboth.
Family: John Shaw married Alice ____ by 1622 if she was
the mother of all his children. She died on March 6, 1654/5, in
Plymouth.
Children of John and Alice Shaw:
- John was born about 1622. He apparently died unmarried.
- Abigail was born about 1624. She married Stephen Bryant about 1646
and had six children.
- James was born about 1626. He married Mary Mitchell on December 24,
1652, in Plymouth and had two children. She married (2) John Jenny after
December 6, 1684, and was still living as of November 17, 1699.
- Jonathan was born about 1631. He married (1) Phebe Watson on January
22, 1656/7, in Plymouth and had eight children. He married (2) Persis
(Dunham) Pratt in August 1683. He died before July 30, 1701.
