The Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows donors to make gifts to NEHGS of up to $100,000 from their IRAs (either traditional or Roth) and have gifts count toward the minimum IRA distribution requirements. While the donor does not receive a charitable income tax deduction, there is no tax on the charitable transfer. Knowing that IRA assets are heavily taxed if left as an estate’s asset, it can be a very wise choice to use IRAs for charitable giving before this provision is schedule to expire on December 31, 2011.
Over the past several months, you have been reading about the Society’s $50 million capital campaign: Connecting Families. Advancing History. Gifts from your IRA may count towards our capital campaign. We would be happy to speak with you at anytime as to how you may facilitate making such a contribution to the Campaign, or about other estate planning programs we make available to our friends and donors, such as bequests, wills, charitable gift annuities or other life income programs.
