My great grandfather William Atkins died in Maine in 1905; his death certificate lists his
birth year as 1843, place of birth Nova Scotia, and parents as Joseph Atkins and Jane
Purdy. Atkins and Purdy were prominent names in Nova Scotia; the Purdy family coming
from New York State and Atkins from Cape Cod, MA. I did find one record for a
Joseph Atkins in the 1891 Canadian Census; stating that he was Baptist (which my family
was) born in 1819, and he was widowed living in Port Medway, Queens NS.
I have also searched for Jane Purdy but those few I found either had birth dates (I figured 1819 through early 1820's) that didn't work out or were not married to a Joseph Atkins. I have also looked for Adkins, Atkinson, Adkinson, etc and still no luck. If anyone has any information or advice on how
to further pursue this I would certainly appreciate it. Thank you!
