My maternal grandmother's surname went through anglization evolution. It began as Gipoulan dit Lafleur, was changed to Lafleur and upon settling in northern Vermont in the 1850's the family changed the name to be Lafley. It made my initial family research very interesting...ok it was initially frustrating.
