My great grandfather, Ole Olson, emigrated from Norway in 1868 to Eau Galle, WI. When he applied for work at the lumber mill he was told that they already had 7 Ole Olsons working there and would he please change his name to Soldahl. When you need a job you will do whatever it takes! Took me years to find where they came from in Norway as I couldn't find any farm names of Soldahl which I was told means "sunny meadow." I eventually found his place of origin through the Evangelical Lutheran Church Archives. The Lutherans kept very good records of the parishioners comings and goings, thank heavens!
