Inspired by the article on the Carver Family heirloom needlepoint in the American Ancestors magazine, has anybody else designed her/his own needlepoint or cross stitch of family names? I recently finished the Houses of Hawk Run Hollow on 32 count Irish Linen with silk thread (took me three years as I'm pretty slow) so I think I better start a family sampler if one is ever to get done!
Perhaps you have used a ready-made pattern. If so, who designed it?
If you designed your own, how did you decide what names to include?
Do you have a favorite alphabet?
What symbols did you choose and why?
Did you stitch in any places/buildings?
Do you have a favorite source for buying linen and threads?
