My ancestors from Lettermore, Conemarra, CO Galway spoke and wrote no english only Gaelic. Has anyone else found a surname misspelled due to the way it was pronounced in Gaelic? For instance, NEE is the actual last name and I have found it on the census and other forms as NAA. Knowing a tiny bit of Gaelic I assume the NAA (A sounds like pay or pa) was spelled the way they spoke the name. ( Pa, Hey, Knee, Woe, Shoe..a, e, i, o, u..how I remember the Gaelic alphabet)
