Hello--
Amelia R Davies (c1813 NY - 26 Jun 1883 Troy, NY) married Sylvester C Ball (10 May 1807 CT- 16 Sep 1876 Troy, NY) a coach maker in Troy, NY on 25 Nov 1830. They had 8 children in Troy (Antoinette G b. 1832; Emma S b. 1834; Harriet A b. 1837; John Calvin b. 1840; Mariah L b. 1842; Charles May b. 1845; Ella G b. 1851; and Horace G b. 1855). Amelia and Sylvester Ball are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
Can anyone assist me in determining Amelia's parents? According to the 1880 census, her father was born in England and her mother in NY. Any assistance would be appreciated. Kind regards, Keith Doree

Have you researched all Davis/Davies in the Troy area between 1800 census and 1860 census, especially the 1820 census?
Of the children, only John and Charles May's names might be clues to her parent's names. (I'm assuming that Calvin is father Sylvester's middle name too.) Or even in the case of Charles May, a possible clue to Amelia's mother's father's name or a brother's name.
You have to spread the net to a Surname net, and then burrow down into county/town deeds and probate. Grunt work.
Best wishes.
