McARTHUR - S.W. McArthur, McArthur-Barnes Ancestral Lines (1964), p. 12, shows only three ch. of Allen & Eunice (BENSON) McARTHUR. In fact there were four: Cyrus, Elvira (or Elivia), Charles (omitted by S.W. McA.), and John B. In Book 4 of deeds on file at Fair Haven, Rutland Co., Vt., pp. 145 (recorded 3 Nov. 1828), 432-33 (recorded 17 Aug. 1835) Cyrus McArthur of Columbia, Bradford Co., Penn., John B. Mc-Arthur of Troy, Bradford Co., and Jefferson Sherman and Elivia his wife, and Charles McArthur, all of Rutland, Tioga Co., Penn., quitclaim to Arnold Briggs of Benson, Rutland Co., Vt., all interest in the estate of their father Allen McArthur, which fell to him as heir of his father Charles McArthur, late of Fair Haven. A short handwritten family history written 18 March 1934 by Sarah J. (McARTHUR) TIPPEY, dau. of John B. McARTHUR, and owned by Mrs. V. Louis (HENDY) JULIAN of Anderson, Md., adds that Allen McARTHUR died five months before his son, John B., was b. 12 Jan. 1814.

CUSHING - Two Benjamin CUSHINGs, father and son, are confused in J.S. Cushing, The Genealogy of the Cushing Family (1952, reprint 1979), p. 50. Benjamin4 CUSHING (John3-2, Matthew1) was indeed born in Scituate, Mass., 17 April 1706, son of John & Deborah (LORING) CUSHING. However, the death date of 4 June 1786 belongs to his son Benjamin CUSHING, born in Providence, R.I., 28 Sept. 1735, as can be seen in their obituaries in the Providence Gazette, abstracted in J. N. Arnold, Vital Record of Rhode Island 13:313, as follows: “Benjamin CUSHING, Sen., in 79th year, 24 Feb. 1785”, “Benjamin CUSHING, Esq., in 51st year,” in Gazette, 10 June 1786. Arnold, op. cit., 15:494, quotes U.S. Chronicle entries to the same effect. The death of Benjamin, Sr., is also noted in Providence vital records as published, p. 264.
