Answer: Braintree has been part of Norfolk County since 1793. Unlike many records that have been transferred to the Massachusetts State Archives, the county of Norfolk retains their original Probate files. These records can be consulted in person. Although the county seat is in Dedham, Mass. (where the Registry of Deeds office is still located) the Probate office is in nearby Canton, Mass.
