Do you have a genealogy or local history question? Ask a Genealogist is a free service which allows both NEHGS members and the general public to receive online reference assistance via email. Our staff of genealogists is available to help you with your family and local history questions, whether it be where to find a particular record or piece of information – either online or in print – or to ask for tips on what to try next in your research.

You can also receive one-on-one research assistance in person or by phone through our Consultations service. We will schedule an appointment with you and select the genealogist you will work with by matching staff expertise with the area you are researching.
