Scott C. Steward has been NEHGS’ Director of Publications since 2005. He is an author -- The Sarsaparilla Kings: A Biography of Dr. James Cook Ayer and Frederick Ayer, with a record of their family (1993); The Le Roy Family in America 1753-2003 (2003, with Newbold Le Roy, 3rd); and The Descendants of Judge John Lowell of Newburyport, Massachusetts (2011, with Christopher Challender Child) – and with John Bradley Arthaud, F.A.S.G., he edited A Thorndike Family History: Descendants of John and Elizabeth (Stratton) Thorndike (2000). His articles have appeared in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, NEXUS, New England Ancestors, and The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine, and he has written book reviews for the Register, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, and the National Genealogical Society Quarterly.

Originally from St. James, Long Island, New York, Henry came to join the NEHGS staff in October 1996. He had previously spent two decades working as a Certified Public Accountant.

Henry graduated with a B.A. from Yale University; he received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in New York.

He is a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists as well as a Fellow of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. He is also a Certified Genealogist. His genealogical interests include New York and the West Indies.

Henry is the author of more than 125 genealogical articles in numerous scholarly journals and is the co-author, compiler, or editor of seven books.

A veteran of the book publishing industry, Penny oversees all steps of book production, from manuscript through to final printing and distribution. Prior to joining the NEHGS staff, she edited and produced such notable books as Boston: All One Family (photographs by Bill Brett); Boston Rediscovered (photographs by Ulrike Welsch); A Short History of Boston by Robert Allison; Boston on Fire by Stephanie Schorow; and Witches, Rakes, and Rogues by D. Brenton Simons. At NEHGS, she has overseen the publication of, among many other titles, The Ancestry of Diana, Princess of Wales; Ancestors of American Presidents; The Descendants of Henry Sewall; The History of the Brigham Family; Early Families of Hull; and New Englanders in the 1600s.

Ginevra Morse joined the NEHGS staff in November 2010, after working for four years at an educational publishing company in Boston. She graduated with a B.A. from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.

Originally from Putnam, Connecticut, Chris Child has worked for various departments at NEHGS since 1997 and became a full-time employee in July 2003. He has been a member of NEHGS since the age of eleven. Chris graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in history from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey in 2003. He belongs to the National History Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta. He has written several articles in New England Ancestors and the Register.

Areas of expertise: the American and English descendants of Wolstone and Ellen (Empson) Childe of London; Southern New England, especially Connecticut; ancestry of notable figures, especially presidents; genetics and genealogy; African-American and Native-American genealogy, 19th and 20th Century research, and westward migrations out of New England. Chris has lectured on genetics and genealogy and applying to hereditary societies.

Lynn Betlock joined the NEHGS staff in October 1995. She previously held the positions of sales manager, director of marketing, and assistant executive director for content management at NEHGS. Lynn has been the editor of American Ancestors since 2003, and she has written numerous articles for the publication.

Lynn graduated with a B.A. from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She received her M.A. in American History from the University of Delaware. Before coming to NEHGS Lynn was employed at the Old South Meeting House in Boston.

In addition to designing American Ancestors magazine, Carolyn also designs products and marketing materials for NEHGS departments. Carolyn came to NEHGS in 1999, originally in the sales department, and began working on the magazine in 2000.
