 If you’re ready to turn your family history research into a publication, join the experts at NEHGS to learn best practices in publishing your findings. NEHGS offers guidance on writing and publishing your family history project in this two-part seminar. Workshops in Part 1 include defining your project, writing in genealogical format, working with images, and adding narrative to your genealogy. Part 2, to be held on February, 23, 2013, delves into the editorial process and book production, and offers a chance to meet with publishers/printers and consult with experts.

9:30        Defining the Project: Setting Goals for Your Publication, Scott Steward, Director of Publications

10:45     The Act of Writing: Applying Genealogical Style as you Write, Penny Stratton, Managing Editor

12:00     Lunch

1:30        Using Interviews and Questionnaires to Add Narrative, panel discussion

2:30        Picture Perfect: Adding Images to Your Publication, Ginevra Morse, Publications Coordinator

3:30        Focus groups: Getting the Most from Microsoft Word; Notes and References; Formatting Your Work

4:30        Conclude

Note: This seminar is intended for those who have completed their research and are ready to begin writing up their findings. Presentations will be geared toward writing and publishing books rather than articles, but those who are planning to write articles will find helpful information. It is NEHGS practice to create manuscripts in Microsoft Word; presentations will assume that writers will be using that program for writing.

Tuition: $110. Includes light breakfast, lunch, and all program materials.
