Question: I have a reference from the Vital Records of Newbury, Massachusetts with “Preston ( Elizabeth CT. R. )”, What does the CT. R. mean?

Answer: The abbreviation of [CT. R] in the published volume of Newbury vital records refers to the Court Records of the Essex County Quarterly Court.   The abbreviation [CT. F] is also in this volume and pertains to the Court Files of the same court.
