Question: This fall I plan to visit my ancestral villages including Dover, Massachusetts. This is where part of my family lived and died between 1820-1880. Can you tell me about the cemeteries that I might find when I visit Dover?
Answer: The town of Dover, Massachusetts has two cemeteries according to my research in A Guide to Massachusetts Cemeteries, (Boston, MA, NEHGS, 2009). Dover was incorporated in 1784 from Dedham, Massachusetts. The oldest cemetery in Dover pre-dates the incorporation of the town, being orginally a Dedhmam cemetery. The oldest is known as the Highland Cemetery which is located at 54 Center Street in Dover. This cemetery dates from as early as 1729. The second location was not consecrated until 1998. This is St. Dunstan's Church Memorial Garden located at 18 Springdale Avenue.
