The Íslendingabók database contains
genealogical information about the inhabitants of Iceland dating back more than 1200 years
. The project goal of tracing all known family connections between Icelanders from the time of the settlement to the present also has practical applications — to help avoid dating between close relatives in this country of 300,000 people.
