(A222) WILLARD/DUNSTER - Re Simon Willard’s poss. w. ____ DUNSTER, mother of
Daniel WILLARD, and Daniel’s w. Mehitable CUTLER: See the Willard Genealogy, ed.
by Pope (191 5), and the following penciled notes in our personal copy. P. 21:
Daniel2, son of Simon1, was b. at Concord 29 Dec. 1658; m. (1) 6. Dec. 1683
Hannah, dau. of John & Mehitable CUTLER of Charlestown. Hannah d. 22 Feb.
1690/1. Daniel m. (2) 1 Jan. 1692/3 Mary, dau. of Jonathan Mills of Braintree
and Boston. Mary survived him and m. (2) 29 Nov. 1723 David Melville. Notes:
“Mehitable Norwell Hilton Cutler was b. 1638 according to Savage. So Daniel’s w.
would have to be the ch. of John Cutler and his first w. Ann Woodmansey, as he
did not m. Mehitable until 1684.”
Daniel2 Willard was a blacksmith, d. 23 Aug. 1708. He res. successively at
Sudbury, Charlestown, Braintree, and Boston. Ch.: Anna, Anna, Elizabeth,
Daniel3, George, Mary, Edward, Benjamm. Susannah, William, Sarah, Mehitable,
Sarab. See also Willard Memoir, or Life and Times of Major Simon Willard, by
Joseph Willard (1858). It is not clear which of Simon Willard’s children were
the ch. of Mary Sharpe, Elizabeth Dunster, or Mary Dunster. No records have been
found of the m. or d. of Simon’s first two wives. Simon’s wid. Mary petitioned
the court, speaking of the special need of “six of her younger children”
According to my records Daniel was the 13th ch. of Simon, hence a son of Mary
Dunster.
