Wellman, Descendants of Thomas Wellman (1918). p. 123 et seq.]. James2 m. int. Falmouth 17 July 1754 Hannah4 BLAKE (Jasper3, John2, Jasper1). bp. in Hampton, N.H., 2 July 1728. Their ch. b. in Falmouth & Lyndeborough: James Jr., Jasper, John, David, Mary, Thomas, Joseph, Ephraim. James d. in Lyndeborough 22 Mar. 1773 [probate rec., Hillsborough Co., N.H.]. Wid. Hannah returned to Falmouth and m. int. Gorham, Me., 14 Aug. 1773, Amos4 WHITNEY (Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), both res. Gorham 21 Sept. 1798; she d. in New Gloucester, Me., May 1815 at home of son Ephraim.     (A-22) EASTON/SLOCUM/BROWNELL - Peter EASTON of Portsmouth, RI.. is apparently the son of John & Mary EASTON; John b. 21 July 1741, son of John & Patience (REDWOOD) EASTON, See Genealogies of R.I. Families from R. I. Periodicals 1:739. There are numerous other references to the EASTON fam. in this volume, and it may be possible to construct the line back to the emigrant. Nicholas EASTON, esp. with the help of Austin’s Genealogical Dictionary of R.I. Stephen BROWNELL of Portsmouth, R.I. was b. 3 Dec. 1695, son of George & Susanna (PEARCE) BROWNEL, and m. in Portsmouth 12 Dec. 1726 Martha EARLE. b. 29 September 1708, dau. of John & Mary (WAITE) EARLE: 10 ch. Samuel Griswold, 24 May 1778, not traced; ii. Ashbel, 22 July 1783 d Sandy Creek, N.Y., 13 June 1854, m. (1) Lydia ___, (d. 24 July 1829, ae. 42), (2) Sabra (d. 12 Apr. 1835, ae. 51); iii. Levi Street, 9/10 March 1786, d. Sandy Creek 22 Apr. 1865, m. in German Flats, N.Y. 10 Nov. 1811 Nancy YOUNGLOVE. Another son Seth b. in Conn. 1794. acc. to 1855 N.Y. census; m. Rhoda ___. 11 ch., res. with son Uri (1875 N.Y. census). Bros. Ashbel and Levi bur. Stevens Cem., Sandy Creek. Census records for Oswego Co. have been helpful, but have been unable to establish records for Ashbel, Sr.’s life in Canajoharie area where fam. res. after rem. from Harwinton. Refs. include: History of Litcitfield Co., Conn. 1., which lists Lt. Ashbel Porter in Col, Moseleys Regiment, Capt. Martin’s Company. starting 10 July 1778.
