(A-558) SNELL/RICE - The late Halleck P. Long, author of several
genealogical articles, prepared an extensive mss. on the SNELL family in 1939
(microfilm #483,677, Gen. Soc. of Utah; mss. index is at NGS Library, Arlington,
Va. Unfortunately, Mr. Long did not cite all his sources. He wrote that
Solomon SNELL (m. Abigail RICE) was son of John SNELL, and grandson of Samuel
SNELL of Oyster River, N.H., and sugg. a connection with Thomas SNELL of
Bridgewater, Mass., and the extensive New England SNELLs; that Solomon SNELL
res. Chester, Vt., in 1790, and d. Erie, Pa. I believe Mr. Long confused father
and son. Son Solomon, b. Mass. ca. 1788; d. Tecumseh, Mich., 1866; poss. m.
Charlotte VAN COORT, and res. Erie, Pa. His father Solomon d. Chester, Vt.. 28
Mar. 1800, ae. 56 (index to Vt. VRs), and is bur. there. His admin. mentions
only Abigail. who d. Chester 18 Mar. 1838: no estate rec. for her has been

Poss. this Susanna m. David GLIDDEN; she is the only Susannah POTTER in the
